Painting During The Summer: How To Be Safe During Exterior Painting
Every season and practically every weather condition are suitable for painting the interior of your home; after all, because interiors are often controlled settings, the temperature and humidity may be regulated to provide the most favourable conditions for painting. However, when it comes to painting the exterior of a house, the situation is quite different. Unfortunately, the success of your project is frequently dependent on the weather conditions that you encounter during its execution. Rather than changing your project to the environment around it, you’ll need to adjust your project to the conditions around which it operates. So, when is the best time to give your home’s outside a little facelift and make it more inviting? We’ll break it down for you.
The Best Time of Year to Paint a House Outside Summer is generally considered to be the best time of year to paint a house exterior. By that time of year, the weather is warm and the amount of rain has been reduced to a bare minimum. However, because “summer” does not imply the same thing (or encompass the same months) in every section of the country, it is more necessary to concentrate on days with favorable weather conditions than on how you refer to the season as a whole. If you live in a region that experiences hurricanes or monsoon-like conditions toward the end of the summer, start painting earlier in the season. Extreme heat should be avoided as well, since it has the potential to prematurely cure paint, causing it to dry nearly rapidly as soon as it is applied to the surface. Paint should not be applied to a surface if the sun shines directly on it to avoid this.
Tips For Exterior Painting In Hot Summer
Especially as the mercury rises and the temperatures soar, the temptation to stay home with an ice-cold beer and the air conditioning turned up to eleven can be alluring… and we don’t blame you! Although summer days are longer and warmer than in the winter, they can provide some of the best (and, sadly, most toughest) circumstances for completing those essential exterior painting chores. Here are our top five painting techniques to help you paint like a pro during the hot summer months.
1. Keep it safe and avoid painting in high heat. We can all agree that there are far more important things to be done on a day with temperatures above 40 degrees than painting the exterior of your home. The rapid drying time caused by extreme weather can result in paint blistering or peeling and poor adhesion and unsightly stroke marks on the surface of the painted surface. Temperatures below 35 degrees are good for both your health and the paint’s longevity.
2. Utilize daylight savings First and foremost, we apologise to our friends in Queensland and Western Australia… Taking on those exterior painting projects early in the morning or late in the evening will result in a much more enjoyable painting experience, allowing you to safely enjoy the summer weather while also protecting your newly painted surfaces.
3. Lightly mist heated surfaces with water. This will assist to preserve your exteriors that are exposed to direct sunshine, as well as metal surfaces such as gates and fences, which will help to keep them cool. Don’t get too carried away; a light misting is all that is required! Pro tip: Use two paintbrushes, one of which should be kept in a separate bucket of water to prevent the bristles from drying out and clumping together throughout the painting process.
4. Keep an eye on the weather app We understand that Australian weather can be fickle and that some states are more susceptible to a summer storm or two each week than others. As a result, we recommend that you avoid painting on rainy, windy, or dusty days if possible. These more corrosive elements can affect paint adhesion and cause small particles of dust to adhere to the surface of the paint.
5. You will not be able to complete any DIY projects if you suffer from heatstroke! You must apply sunscreen regularly, wear your best broad-brimmed hat, and drink enough fluids.
